Imagine a household with a father, a mother, and teenage children. Now suppose the father resolves to do all the housework himself: washing dishes and laundry, cleaning the floors, taking out the trash, and so on, before going to work each morning to provide for the entire household. This is unreasonable, isn't it? Our concern here isn't that such fathers don't help their children, but that they exhaust themselves unnecessarily.
.
For the household to function smoothly, children need to lighten their parents' load somewhat by taking on tasks within their capabilities. This allows the father, who possesses the skills and mental maturity to navigate the world and earn a living, to dedicate himself to the tasks only he can accomplish.
This is certainly obvious to everyone, except when it comes to applying it to faith. We, children of God, who have access to the Father through Christ, are supposed to take to heart the situation, the spiritual condition of the nation, in our city; we are supposed to constantly battle in the spiritual realm to deliver our city from the demons that haunt it. But what do we see? Brothers who have enough time to pray in order to obtain positions sought after by people without hope. They want to be the head of the world; they seem to have their own "New Testament"; they seem to have knowledge of the apostles who were said to have been in charge of Rome or Jerusalem. Brethren, let us put an end to this sacrilege and not make the Bible say what it never implied. Let us not twist the Scriptures of the Old Testament, which correspond to a particular context, to apply them to our time. Do you not know that a Christian cannot be a "politician"? Christ tells us that we will be hated; this is a certainty (John 15:19). This is not an invitation to be unpleasant, but a reminder of the facts.
.
Let us strive in the spiritual realm for the salvation of our nation, as Jesus did in his earthly ministry, and even today as he continues to intercede; as Moses interceded, or Joshua went into battle. Let us cease dreaming of "cleaning the house," our work is rather to "provide for the needs." You will not save the nation by engaging in politics or becoming a leader, but by praying that God will work in the hearts of all; by preaching the Word of God. And if, exceptionally, God wishes to raise you up before humankind, may His will be done.... But let us be clear, our primary vocation is to be intercessors and workers for the salvation—first spiritual, then social—of the nation, and not to hold positions of power. May those who do so repent, and may those who are most mature before God guard against being drawn to this second-rate struggle.
In the name of Christ Jesus! Amen!
